"Honduras: Day 7"

Well alot has been happening since I posted last. Sorry for the hiatus but it has been pretty busy these past few days. Alex and I have mainly been going to the hospital every morning. Angie was lucky enough to set it up so that we could go to the men's ward in the hospital and perform wound care. This is one skill that I have always felt uneasy with but not anymore. Alex and I cleaned and wrapped wounds of all shapes and sizes. The wounds that we saw were mainly from diabetes. One gentleman had an ulcer so bad in his foot that we could see the bone. So much nerve damage had been done that he didn't even feel it when we were scrubbing. Another person had a large gash in his leg. He was apparently riding his bike behind two trucks who decided to race each other. He had to bail off of his bike into the ditch hence breaking his leg. I felt the worst for the girl that we did a dressing change on in Pediatrics. She was drawing water from a well and proceeded to put the jug on top of her head (as all women do down here). After she did this she lost her balance and fell in the well. She busted her spleen and had many cuts and bruises but thankfully she is going to be ok. It was cool the other day because Angie found a waterpark that we could all go to. It only cost like 3 dollars to get in and they had 2 huge slides and a really big pool. The only bad thing was all of the drinking that was going on. Some of the guys there were being disrespectful to the girls on our team so I had to intervene a couple of times. Other than that though it was a blast. Yesterday we went to the beach and had a great time. Well I know that this feels rushed but we are getting ready to go to church so I need to wrap it up. Afterwards we are helping with a kids festival until 3 and then are taking the rest of the day off. Hope this post finds you all doing well.

"Honduras: Day 2"

Well I was going to post yesterday but we had a long one so I was really tired. It has been great being back in Honduras. It is hard to believe that it has been a year since I was here last. It really does feel like I never left so I had no problem getting back into the groove of things. Yesterday I worked in labor and delivery for 6 hours. This area of nursing really isn't my slice of pie and I defenitely filled my "vagina quota" for the day but it was awesome being able to see 2 new lives being born within an hour. We left the hospital at around 5 yesterday and then came back to the mission house and had dinner. From there we went back to our hotel and swam. We have been getting up everyday at around 0530. Something which I thought would be insane hard for me to do considering that I have been working third shift all summer. I have been pleasently suprised though and have jumped out of bed the last two days excited to start another day. Today I went to Dr. Geron's office and I observed him while he saw patients. He is really good about involving students and allowed me to perform various assessments. Another student and I were there from about 0800 to 1130. When we got back I reorganized some of the supply room and helped everyone else make cookies for this weekend (Angie is involved with a "children's day" at the church and the cookies are for them). I must say that everything is going great and I feel so blessed that I was able to have another chance at serving in this country once more. Well we are getting ready to have dinner so I must depart.

Website Alert: "Do You Wiki"

Is it just me or does Wikipedia’s Online Encyclopedia have one of the greatest ideas for information exchange ever. What makes it so great you may ask????.....it’s totally people driven!!! People who search the internet and find out information about a particular subject upload the info they found onto Wiki thereby expanding the already existing article or creating a new one. Plus with over 1 million articles to choose from you are bound to find what you are looking for. At first I couldn't believe that they actually let other people edit their page and articles. Then one day curiosity got the best of me and I clicked the edit button and typed in random characters in the middle of a paragraph and hit saved and sure enough it was saved. Of course they emailed me 2 days later and told me not to do it anymore but hey I thought it was cool that if I know some new information on a subject that isn't already there I can simply hit edit and add it. I have been on it quite often lately (mainly at work when bored) and have learned some rather interesting things:
- Eating your boogers is thought to boost your immune system (I'll take my chances)
- Golf was originally a guy only sport hence Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden.
- You can make a wallet (complete with inside holders) completely out of duct tape.
Of course they have normal articles as well (those were only things that stood out). So be sure to check it out.....its pretty crunk as they like to say.

Website Alert: "Belt Out Some Notes"

Hey guys,
This is going to be a brief post. Sorry I haven't updated for some time. I have to be in the right mood to want to post and that mood hasn't struck me for some time. Anyways, I was surfing today and found a really cool website for anybody who enjoys singing. The site is called daretosing.com. It only takes like 2 minutes to register and once you are you are able to record your voice (via a microphone attached to your computer) and other users rate the songs you sing. So yeah....enjoy
